Pythagorean
About
In 2011 our class teacher (who also happened to be our math teacher) invited national TV reporters to demonstrate that art and mathematics can be combined for a better learning experience. The day before class, by chance, she saw me in the corridor and asked me to write a song about the Pythagorean theorem. At the time I only played guitar and had never written an entire song myself, so I had less than a day to figure it out. Everything you hear below is the original idea, especially the whole instrumental, with the solo. Recently in 2021 I only added the two verses to really make it a song. Before that it was only the chorus with the instrumental.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The song is gonna be a theorem yet applied
to find a right triangle's missing side.
Let's name the sides with the letters "A", "B", "C".
and choose the opposite the right angle to be "C".
Then...
[Chorus]
C squared = B squared + A squared (x2)
And that's Pythagorean theorem, yeah. (x2)
[Verse 2]
Here's a school story which all started in the break.
Our class teacher wanted me a song to make.
And added: "For tomorrow's class can it be?"
Spent the afternoon, 'cause next day we were on TV.
We sang...
[Chorus]
C squared = B squared + A squared (x2)
And that's Pythagorean theorem, yeah. (x2)
[Solo]
[Semi-chorus]
And that's Pythagorean theorem, yeah. (x2)
